The Magnolia Garden Open Days held in August attracted their biggest ever turn, out sending a group of Dreamers’ confidence and fundraising efforts to new heights.
These annual events held at Cath and Dave Davies-Colley’s stunning Poroti property attract hundreds of garden enthusiasts to experience the stunning grounds with more than 100 magnolia trees in full bloom. All of the profits from the days are generously donated to I Have a Dream.
The couple have been long-time supporters because they see the value the IHAD programme is bringing to the students involved. “IHAD has such a positive impact on these young people and that is why we love being involved,” says Cath.
IHAD Year 7 Navigator Rose Welsh says “the Magnolia Gardens open days are such a valuable event for IHAD in a number of other ways. Through the experience, the Dreamers strengthen their own relationships as a group, working together to make the day enjoyable for visitors. The days provides practical experiential learning as Dreamers manage money, serve food, keep the kitchen clean and prepped and chat with the public.”
The funds generated at this year’s events will go towards a life-changing, and life-making, trip to Rarotonga in 2023 for a group of Whangarei high school students.
