Kia ora Whanau,

As we celebrate Matariki season and focus on the “bright stars”, my mind is drawn to think about how we celebrate our stars right in front of us – our tamariki – and how we can make them shine their brightest.

Here are I Have a Dream’s top four tips for keeping your tamariki’s star shining bright this winter:

  • Encouragement: “you can do it, I believe in you” – This helps our tamariki feel like they can, and like they’re supported no
    matter what;
  • Resilience: “Keep going, don’t give up” – This helps our tamariki to keep on trying, even when life gets hard;
  • Aroha: “I care about you, you are special” – This helps our tamariki feel secure, and that they belong in this world;
  • Celebration: “Awesome, ka pai, well done” – This helps our tamariki feel proud about their efforts, and gives them a feeling
    of success.

Come join our constellation, and my amazing staff, during Matariki as we put an “extra effort” in remembering to do these 4 things with our tamariki. Together we can create some bright stars who guide our future generations.

We hope to see you all at our next whanau evening scheduled for Thursday 26th July.

I hope you enjoy reading our latest I Have a Dream newsletter — ”every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world” – Harriet Tubman
