OUR STORIES

Upcoming donor and supporter events

We wanted to share with you some upcoming opportunities for our donors and supporters to connect further with our current work and future plans.

Catalyst Kōrero

Date: 29th September

Time: 6pm to 7.30pm

Location: The Rees Hotel, Queenstown

About: Hosted by Catalyst Trust, this event is focused on proven and innovative solutions from the private and charitable sector and whether, in this age of cutbacks, the government’s social sector can adopt them.

I Have a Dream founder and chair Scott Gilmour will present his vision on how this could be achieved. Nearly all proven solutions require barriers between siloed government departments to be broken down, and more philanthropy to fund them.

“We need to have these conversations – the ‘how’ and the ‘who’. We know that every kid deserves support, encouragement and hope. And that long-term solutions, not quick fixes are our best opportunity to provide a fair society”. Scott said.

Donations from this event will be given to Central Lakes Family Services. For anyone in the Queenstown region this weekend, you can still register to attend here.

More about I Have a Dream

I Have a Dream is a charity focused on inspiring dreams and enabling futures for Tamariki (children) and Rangatahi (youth). Program participants (Dreamers) are supported and mentored by Navigators across their time at school and beyond to year 15, helping connect them to ongoing education and employment opportunities. Navigators come from all walks of life and backgrounds and work in partnership with schools, whānau and other people in the support networks of Dreamers to help see each child reach their full potential.

Whangārei Supporter, Dreamer and Whānau event

Date: 27th November

Time: 5.30pm to 7.30pm

Location: The Hundertwasser Art Centre and Wairau Māori Art Gallery, 81 Dent Street, Whangārei

About: Celebrating our Dreamers, their whanāu and our Navigators engagement with the Hundertwasser art program. This is an opportunity for donors and supporters to come and see the impact of our work first hand, and to meet those working to deliver on the vision, mission and purpose of I Have a Dream.

The Hundertwasser Art Centre has supported the I Have a Dream programme for the past few terms by providing a dedicated art program for our Dreamers which Navigators transport them to and from weekly.

The Hundertwasser Art program is founded on the principles of visionary artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser’s and celebrates his lived vision – a life in harmony with nature and with individual creativity. The program meets a wide range of learning intentions across most of the learning areas of the New Zealand Curriculum.

The extraordinary building set in a serene waterside location displays an expansive collection of Hundertwasser’s art, alongside world class contemporary Māori art.

A collage of the artworks created by Dreamers will be on display and there will be interactive art activities to engage with on the night.

Attendees will be able to explore the Hundertwasser Art Centre and Wairau Māori Art Gallery, or take part in a guided tour during the evening. Light refreshments will be provided.
