If you’ve headed out to the Tutukaka Coast lately you may have noticed our new I Have a Dream sign outside Tikipunga High School alongside the Mobil service station on the main road out. Well we haven’t quite moved in yet, but thanks to the support of a great group of #DreamPartners from our local community we are nearly there. The building will be used to house our High School Navigators, host agency meetings about inspiring these kids Dreams, and serve as a drop in space for our high-school youth.
The site (formerly the school caretakers house), has had it’s lease gifted to us by the Ministry of Education and school board. Tired and worn, it needed dressing up and we are truly thankful to a number of organisations and individuals have come along to help us out. Bunnings Whangarei have been nothing short of amazing as they committed to donating all the paint, kitchen, plywood, plus the store manager even came and helped us out to line the walls of the garage (soon to be used as a drop in space for our youth). Obviously paint needs a painter and we are forever grateful to Michael Ataya, who recently retired into Tikipunga and rounded up an army of volunteers to help him paint the entire interior. Then out of the blue one day we got a notification from the Chairperson of the neighboring Tikipunga Primary school Board – him and his family had not only donated their extra plants from home they’d spontaneously come and planted out the front garden and transformed the dirt pile and sent us a picture. We are now on our final stages, installing the flooring thanks to some second hand carpet that was donated by The Falls Estate renovations. If you think you can contribute in some way please contact us. We hope to be in and blessing the place in a month or two.
