2024 Primary school Term 4
Our Primary School Dreamers have had another amazing term. Thank you to each and every member of our community who made it possible! Bring on the summer fun and we'll see you in 2025!

Dreamers across our Primary Schools have had an amazing term 4, this term is a time of celebration and reflection and it was an absolute honour to attend beautiful prizegiving or praisegivings as some of our kura (schools) call them – we love that positivity! We handed out our Dreamer of the Year awards to lucky Dreamers but in our eyes all of our Dreamers are winners and it’s always very hard to choose just one!
As the weather warmed up in Term 4 and we started to get some visits from Mr Sunshine a bit more often, we were able to bring new activities into our programmes for Dreamers like slip and slides and lots of time in the pool!
We celebrated the Dreamers that have been part of the Hundertwasser Art Programme this term in a special event that brought together Dreamers, whanāau, community members and some of our supporters. Dreamer artwork was on display and a collaborative piece of artwork done by multiple Dreamers was auctioned off to raise money for I Have a Dream. Whānau and Dreamers were able to tour the art gallery and rooftop garden together and it was such an incredible experience for our little artists to proudly see their artwork on display on easels around the gallery, up on the walls and on a large screen slideshow.
Art projects were big on the agenda with many Navigators making Christmas decorations, chalk drawings, weaving, photography and other art pieces this term.
Many of our Dreamers were lucky to get the opportunity to attend boxing classes as part of our after school programmes facilitated by Whaea Char and Whaea Bubbie. A huge shoutout to Whangarei Boxing Gym for your ongoing partnership and support – our Dreamers absolutely love coming to boxing and the skills they are learning, including confidence, hand/eye coordination and fitness are so invaluable.
Our beautiful Navigators from Te kura o Otangarei were at the Artisan markets setting honey, pickles, vegetables and plans from the Otangarei Oasis project. All produce was straight out of the garden, including the honey from our kura behives, processed for us by Tahi Honey . As part of this project, students learn about growing and harvesting vegetables and preparing and cooking them in the kitchen. Whaea Nics and Whaea Donna will be continuing this project into 2025 so if you would like to know more or would like to purchase some produce, please reach out to Whaea Nics at nicola@ihaveadream.org.nz
Another theme for this term was focussing on gratitude. Matua Brenz specifically spent time looking at the importance of our whānau and the roles they play in our lives. He held many conversations about gratitude and acknowledging loved ones in our homes for the work they do for our young people.
While we’re on that theme we want to say a huge thank you to our incredible volunteers who provide huge assistance to the primary school team across all of their projects. Without them running these programmes would not be possible! We celebrated their contribution in a special event this month which you can read about here.
We would also like to thank all of the whānau who trust us with their precious Dreamers, and our school partners at Tikipunga Primary, Totara Grove and Te kura o Otangarei.
