March Wellness Month

This March, the I Have a Dream team is leading by example, inspiring our Dreamers to stay active and enjoy the great outdoors by participating in two exciting events.

We’re fortunate to have been chosen as the charitable partner for both, and we’d love for you to join us in supporting our tamariki and rangatahi while getting fit and having fun.

Two Events, One Goal: Get Active and Fundraise!

The Classic 100 – March Challenge

For the sixth consecutive year, Classic Builders is hosting the Classic 100, and we’re thrilled to have been selected as their charity partner. This challenge encourages participants to get moving by completing 100 kilometres over the course of March – a great way to kickstart your fitness goals.

Whether you’re walking, running, cycling, or even hitting the gym, every step counts. You can track your kilometres through daily activities, from walking around the office to heading out for your lunch break jog. You will be surprised how easy it is to reach the 100 km target – for example, if you walk the Hatea Loop (4.2 km), just 23 times throughout the month, you’ll tick it off!

You can take part as an individual or rally your whānau, friends, and colleagues to form a team. The first 150 people to register will receive an event shirt to wear proudly while you’re getting active!

Once you’ve registered, don’t forget to set up your fundraising page on Givealittle. Fundraising for I Have a Dream is a great way to motivate yourself and others to reach their fitness goals while supporting a fantastic cause.

Chilltech Beach to Basin – Sunday, 2 March

The iconic Chilltech Beach to Basin event has been a Whangārei tradition since 1978, attracting thousands of participants each year, from seasoned athletes to parents with prams. This whānau-friendly event is all about encouraging everyone to get active and have a good time, with the emphasis on inclusion – no matter your fitness level.

This year, I Have a Dream is honoured to be one of the two charities Sport Northland has chosen to fundraise for. Along with Life Education Trust, we’re excited to have your support, so when you sign up, you’ll have the option to choose which charity you’d like to back.

In addition to fundraising, you can contribute to I Have a Dream by making a direct donation or sponsoring one of our Dreamers to take part in the event. And as a special bonus, every adult who registers for the Chilltech Beach to Basin is entered into the draw to win a 2024 Suzuki Swift – an exciting incentive as part of Sport Northland’s Run/Walk Series.

Course Details (with maps available here):

  • GJ Gardener 10k (Adults and Kids): Starting at Beach Road in Onerahi, this course follows the Waimahanga Track and continues down Waimahanga Road, onto Onerahi Road, Riverside Drive, Dave Culham Drive linking to Hātea before finishing at Pūtahi Park in the Town Basin.
  • 6.8k: This course starts at Onerahi Sports Park and follows a similar route, connecting to Riverside Drive and the Hātea Loop before finishing at Pūtahi Park.
  • 2.3k: A shorter option for tamariki and beginners, starting at William Fraser Memorial Park and following the Hātea Loop to Pūtahi Park.

Each route will have water stations along the way, and participants will receive a cup of water and a banana at the finish line. Be sure to stick around for the spot prize draws too!
