Championing Academic Success
The students of Mount Albert Grammar School (MAGS) in Auckland recently raised over $4,200 for I Have a Dream through their annual quiz night.
Student Academic Council representative and Year 13 Academic Prefect Nishka Arora explained that they choose I Have a Dream as the nominated charity for this event because they wanted something that aligned with their own goals around academic success.
The council is very involved with tutoring students at MAGS and they felt that IHAD was a really good fit. A number of Dreamers from our Mount Roskill cohort went on to attend MAGS, so it is particularly heartening for us to have an ongoing connection with the school. The quiz night held in August was one of the largest ever held at MAGS with a record turnout and it looked to be a really fun night.
Thirty three teams gathered for the challenge, and across eight rounds brains were tested in categories such as sport, literature, and food.
Teachers were pitted against students and were ultimately victorious, setting the scene for a tense rematch for next year.
Students and teachers alike dressed up for the event, creating a fun and celebratory atmosphere.
Awards were handed out for best dressed with wins taken out by teams dressed as The Wizard of Oz, Willy Wonka and the Oompa Loompas and Princess Jasmine and the Fairy Warrior.
For the quiz performances, prizes were awarded not only to the winners but to 10th, 20th and second to last team.
A huge thanks to the Student Academic Council and the year 11-13 pupils at MAGS for hosting such a fabulous fundraising event in support of I Have a Dream.
