A Legacy on Wheels

This generous donation, paired with Allan’s support in ensuring such a seamless sale, has created a significant source of funding for Dreamers on their pathways.

One of I Have a Dream’s long‑time supporters has made an extraordinary contribution by donating their cherished 1929 Rolls‑Royce Phantom II for the organisation to sell, with all proceeds supporting the Pathways Programme in partnership with Tikipunga High School.

The donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, has quietly supported a range of Dreamer activities over several years. Their most remarkable act of generosity came through the Phantom II, which was sold to Otago car enthusiast Allan Dippie.

The car arrived in Aotearoa from England in the 1980s. It features a 7.7‑litre engine, a rare soft‑top body, and two windscreens that earned it the name Dual-Cowell Phantom.

Once the donor signalled their intention to gift the vehicle, efforts began to find the right buyer.  A mutual friend introduced Allan Dippie to I Have a Dream Chairman Scott Gilmour, which led to conversations that resulted in a smooth sale. Allan, who is the founder of the Wheels at Wanaka show, a vintage machinery enthusiast, and a passionate car racer, travelled north to view the Phantom and decided to purchase it directly. His willingness to take on the restoration work and manage the logistics spared the organisation significant transport and compliance costs. The Phantom will now join his collection in Otago, and he looks forward to driving it regularly.

This generous donation, paired with Allan’s support in ensuring such a seamless sale, has created a significant source of funding for Dreamers on their pathways. The Dual Phantom now stands as a lasting testament to the donor’s commitment to young people in Northland and to the community spirit that helped bring this gift to life.
